Algal biotechnology is now rapidly growing to be one of the most promising long-term, sustainable sources of biomass and oils for food, feed, biofuels and other co-products. The triannual Asia-Pacific Conference on Algal Biotechnology (APCAB) provides an opportunity to get together, meet new friends and colleagues, and share ideas and knowledge about the current status of algal biotechnology in the Asia-Pacific region.
Following the success of eight APCAB conferences: in Malaysia (1992), Singapore (1994), Thailand (Phuket, 1997), China (Hong Kong, 2000), China (Qingdao, 2003), Philippines (2006), India (2009) and Australia (2012), the 9thAsia-Pacific Conference on Algal Biotechnology (9thAPCAB) will be held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2016. This time, the opportunity to organize the 9th APCAB Conference under the auspices of Asia-Pacific Society for Applied Phycology (APSAP) has been granted to the King Mongkut′s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT). The theme of the conference is “Algae for Food, Feed, Fuel and Beyond” and it will be held on15-18 November 2016, at the Century Park Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.
As the range and diversity of algal biotechnology research and industries are now rapidly growing, the conference topics will cover a wide range of significant researchthemes from basic science to commercialization. Participants will be given the opportunity to explore various research in the field of taxonomy, biology, physiology, ecology, cultivation, bioprocesses, biotechnology, bioinformatics and systems biology of macro- and microalgae, including value-added products and their applications. The aim of this conference is to expand networks, partnerships and collaborations between different universities and entrepreneurs in the field, in order to promote algal research in the Asia-Pacific region.
